Embassy visas for Azerbaijan

Tourists and business travelers from eligible countries are encouraged to apply for an Azerbaijan e-Visa; with no need to attend an embassy or consulate in person it is the most time-efficient method.

Visitors who cannot apply for an electronic visa based on their nationality, or the reason or length of stay in Azerbaijan, should apply in person.

Not every country has an embassy, it’s important for applicants to check where the nearest Azerbaijan diplomatic mission is located.

The following types of Azerbaijan visas can be obtained at an embassy.

Employment visa for the Republic of Azerbaijan

A labor visa is issued to foreigners who wish to carry out paid work in Azerbaijan. In addition to general Azerbaijan visa requirements, applicants must present an invitation from the receiving party.

Additional documentation such as proof of accommodation may also be requested.

Travelers are reminded that it’s not necessary to apply for a visa at an embassy for unpaid business trips to Azerbaijan. The e-Visa is valid for business trips to attend meetings and events.

Private visa for visiting friends and relatives

Foreigners may be issued with a private visa to visit friends or family resident in Azerbaijan. In this case, the applicant must provide an invitation letter from the Azerbaijani citizen or a foreign citizen working in Azerbaijan on a business visa.

Eligible foreigners who meet the entry criteria may prefer to apply for a tourist e-Visa to stay in Azerbaijan for up to 30 days.

Visas on Arrival in Azerbaijan

Citizens of just 15 countries can currently get an Azerbaijan visa on arrival at an international airport. Travelers who opt for a visa on arrival rather than online may face waiting in long lines at the airport and should allow extra time for their journey.

People from most of the countries on this list can also apply for the e-Visa and are advised to do so.

Foreigners with residence permits issued by a GCC nation can obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum of 30 days.

If these citizens have passports issued by an e-Visa eligible country, they can instead prepare for their trip in advance by applying online.
